Wastside Noir was written specially for the Shetland Noir festival, 2015, and includes my historical short story The Homecoming, about a young wife coming from Edinburgh to live in Shetland. This story, and several of the others, were written during our Westside Writers’ retreat at Belmont House, the setting for much of Ghosts of the Vikings.  Other pieces include reflections on the idea of noir ... poems of time and transience ... a true-life murder case ... divorces gone wrong ... the dark side of marriage ... Death takes an apprentice ... a lawyer investigates the laird's past... murderous feelings evoked over an allotment produce show ... an invasion of small furry creatures ...sinister bikers ... murder in a boathouse ... a bored small boy getting into trouble ... and Fred the Praying Mantis coming to a sticky end.
