Over the years I’ve written a huge number of plays, for all ages. My whole teaching career was spent in Aith Junior High School, in the glorious days when teachers could in general create their own curriculum, and when there was no shortage of money. I taught English and French in the secondary, but also went down into the primary and did drama there: short, mostly movement plays on their current topic for the youngest pupils (5-8), plays mingling movement and dialogue for the older primary classes (9-11) and pantomimes for the secondary pupils. The pantomimes grew from a single-class project to a whole school extravaganza, and after we won the Youth Trophy in our first County Drama Festival outing, there was no holding us. First the secondary and then the primary too entered a play each year, and I wrote most of them. I’ve also written plays for adults.
